Bellwork: Think of a ballad, like one you would hear on the radio. What are some of the common features we could expect to hear in all ballads? (10 Min)
1) "Two Corbies" (10 Min)
-- Note the differences with Middle English; what are corbies; what has caused knight's death?; focus on animals
2) "Lord Randall" (15 Min)
-- ABCs of Comparing and Contrasting (Beers 2003) -- Use each letter of the alphabet to come up with a word that describes the mother or the son.
3) "Get Up and Bar the Door" (10 Min)
-- It Says/I Say -- Use a two-column chart to translate the text to more modern language (treat each stanza as one translation)
